Nice Transparent Loading GIF
Posted: 24th Feb 2010
We've all seen those loading images when you click on links in AJAX enabled websites, such as Twitter. They are essential, particularly when coding websites with AJAX functionality because the user needs to know if something is actually happening.
So having one of these loading images is useful, and they can often be 'borrowed' from the web. However the problem with a lot of these images is that they don't work very well with different backgrounds because of transparency issues.
Well I spent a while making one the other day in Photoshop that works nicely on many backgrounds and thought I'd share it with the world.
Feel free to use this image, let me know where you've used it if you do. I've used it in Project Bubble and other sites.

CodeIgniter - Custom errors using the Form Validation class
Posted: 4th Mar 2009
TECHY WARNING - This post has techy-talk, be warned
Recently I've been using the new Form Validation Class on CodeIgniter and though overall it is much better than the previous validation class I found a gripe with it recently when trying to add custom error messages using the "validation_errors()" helper.
Halogy - the "website in a box" solution
Posted: 1st Mar 2009
A lot of people have similar requirements for their websites. They need a nicely designed template, a CMS (Content Management System) so they can update their pages, a Shop and perhaps cool stuff like a blog or a group email deployment system.
Normally they would hire a web company in to build this site bespoke, tailored to their needs and the costs would be a fortune. But today us web developers rarely re-invent the wheel each time this scenario comes up. We can use systems that do all of the above and where all of the hard work has been done already. We have our own system and it's called Halogy.
CodeIgniter - building web sites fast!
Posted: 1st Mar 2009
What is CodeIgniter?
I have been using CodeIgniter for about 6 months now and I really love it. It is basically a framework that you can build web applications on quickly. A bit like Symfony or the Zend Framework it allows developers to not have to re-invent the wheel every time they build a blog or a shopping cart system. We have built so many web applications which would normally have taken months, thanks to CodeIgniter framework.
