Posted: 5th Sep 2009
We are proud to announce the launch of a new site which we have been working on for the last 3-4 months. It is the Philo Trust and is powered by Halogy, features a Shop, Events module, and lots more... check it out!
SEO Friendly CMS
Posted: 2nd Sep 2009
We have been looking at other CMSs (by the way it's CMSs or CMS not CMS Systems - just a little bugbear of ours!) that provide Search Engine Friendly (SEO) pages. There are a few, some complicated, some not complicated.
Halogy provides all of it's URLs in a Search Engine Friendly manner, allows for meta tagging, meta descriptions and automatically generates site maps, robots.txt and backlinks in the blog. So we think that it's pretty cool (of course).
If you want to know more you should have a look at the ThirtyDayChallenge as they cover SEO very well. They provide a list of free resources too to help get your blog search engine optimised, like Weebly and others.
Our Ethos (Web Development Process)
Posted: 31st Aug 2009
I thought I would just share a bit about how we think the web development process should work - from when a client submits a brief to the site being handed over (and beyond). We are calling this the Halogy Ethos because it forms the basis of why we built Halogy.
Headlines Module for Halogy
Posted: 28th Aug 2009

We have recently been working for a client called the Philo Trust building their new site in Halogy. In their brief they requested site-wide feeds from modules such as Shop and Events. In other words they wanted to be able to have a sidebar which always showed what was in their cart, what events are upcoming and what blog posts are recent.
Halogy Donations Module
Posted: 19th Aug 2009

We have just been working on a donations module for Halogy where shoppers are asked whether they want to add a donation to their shopping cart. Upon doing so the donation is simply added to the checkout.
Also the module enables websites to have a donations page where they can make a donation separately and use Gift Aid (so the organisation can benefit from claiming back the tax). So this could be a really useful feature for charities and organisations needing donations.
Amazing Jquery Slideshow Gallery

This is the best Jquery slideshow plug-in that I have seen in a long time, good work guys: GalleryView.
Please, think about the UI
Posted: 18th Aug 2009
After recently trying to book some flights on a very major airline I was very put off by the poor User Interface design and got very frustrated. Poor navigation, forms that were clumsy and awkward, error messages that had no Back button and therefore resulted in me having to use the Back button on the browser and then losing data - not to mention having my session expire!
User Interface design is very important, far more important than whether your logo looks cool or not. The user journey needs to be smooth, clearly informed with obvious buttons, nice forms that have descriptions by the form elements, and tested thoroughly! C'mon major companies that should have budgets for these kind of things!
As Seth Godin puts it:
Don't get stressed about your logo...
Get very stressed about user interface and product design
CodeIgniter E-Commerce Software
Posted: 13th Aug 2009

Well we are very pleased with our new Halogy powered E-Commerce software. We have just finishing making some new updates to the software which up until now has only really been quite basic. Now you can have your customers write product reviews, set up your own customised shipping bands and postage tables, insert discount coupon codes and lots more.
The Charity Sector
Posted: 10th Aug 2009

Recently we have been doing a lot of work in the charity sector and I just thought I'd share what we've been working on lately. A lot of clients we have are charities who really need websites that can capture the details of their visitors, track what they look at and have effective calls to action - usually to a donations page. We have been building modules on to Halogy that do this.
Halogy Wiki
Posted: 17th Jul 2009

Recently we have been developing a Wiki for Halogy. What's so great about a Wiki is that your community help you develop the pages inside. So you might need a load of documentation written, or you might want to write about a recent project that involved lots of people. Well with a Wiki - everyone can be involved with the writing and this saves you a lot of time!
